Blurryface-Twenty one pilots overview and personal thoughts

Blurryface , actually the 4th studio album by the band Twenty One Pilots. After the first album, that wasn't the most popular but definitely built a fan base. The second album was similar, it also built the fan base even more, and had a couple songs that while they never charted on the BH100, they were super popular among the fans. Then the third album, just like the last two, none of the songs charted, but here is where the band began to get into the mainstream, with songs like Car radio, Ode to sleep, and Holding on to you. (Yes I know I need to finish the album overview for Vessel beyond the first two songs) With all the hype in the band, with both the fans and the mainstream alike, does this album live up to the hype? The album starts with the song Heavydirtysoul . The song starts off with the second (or third if you count the one later in the song) fastest rap section in Twenty One Pilots songs (I don't know about kitchen sink, I didn't calculate it yet). The rap s...

Marathon training/Cross country season Days 18-39

Day 18 , 9/22/18 Long run day. Ran it with Sam, Isaiah, and Elijah. Was really glad to have company, especially after Friday. I bruised my calf at a party I went to, we were playing capture the flag and I tripped, and someone tripped over my calf. I was fine for the game, but after the adrenaline had worn off, I was limping pretty hard. I iced my leg that night which helped, but it was still sore the next morning. But that wasn't the worst when it came to the run. I had gotten a sore throat on Saturday morning right before the run and that just made my run miserable. I couldn't breathe great, second half of the run I was coughing every 3 minutes or so, and I had a headache to top it all off. The run started off pretty fine though, although it was much slower than I usually run. Isaiah probably didn't mind, since I stuck back with him anytime he got behind. Talked about how bad it looks like we exert ourselves when we run, it was a pretty interesting conversation. Both Is...

Marathon training/Cross country season, days 1-17

To be fair, Marathon training started quite a while ago for me, but since it starts 8 months from today, I'll count that as day 1 . I joined a track team very early this spring, my Mom didn't like how inactive I was, so she signed me up for track. I am really glad she did, ever since track has started, I have been running a lot, over the summer I joined a running club, ran 300 miles, and since have joined a cross country team. Right now, since marathon workout plans don't extend out this far, (8 months) then I don't run any set runs right now, plus I have my cross country workouts I am running, so I don't want to burn myself out too much anyway. Currently, I haven't run anything farther than 11.5 miles, and my current mileage is 30-35 miles a week. As of last week, I had my first 5k race and cross country meet, I ran expecting to get ~22:30 and I ended up crushing the time with a 20:52. With everything going as it is, I am looking forward to running more in the...

RIOT! Album overview and personal thoughts

RIOT! The second studio album by the band Paramore, and the first one to get the name Paramore into the mainstream. This album falls into the category of Pop-Punk, or if you want to be more general, just call it rock. Fronted by a female lead vocalist, this band has an interesting chemistry that many other bands do not have, but is that a good or bad thing? For a Pessimist, I'm pretty optimistic  is the lead song off of the album RIOT!, and it is a very good introduction to the band, and the album. A hard-rocking, fast paced and energetic piece, and an ok message in the song at best, I would say. While the song is a jam, and the lyrics have a good message to them, after about 10 listens to the album, the song seems to have less staying power than some of the rest of the songs, perhaps it's the slightly repetitive chorus, perhaps it's the "generic" use of the guitars. Either way, while there is plenty I can dislike about this song, I still think that it is a go...

Vessel, part 2. Holding on to you

Before I start, I want to say this. I am trying hard not to be biased, but I love Twenty One Pilots, I think they are great musical artists, and also appeals to me personally. So that's why on the second part of the Vessel review, I'll try and put my less favorite songs on the list next. (Plus it makes sense that Holding on to you comes after Ode to Sleep). Holding on to you This song start with a line that is really good at catching your attention, "I'm taking over my body". Then afterwards, it goes into quite a long spiel of "rap" or whatever you call Tyler's singing. Just to note, the first section is just getting started. I found out of all the songs on this album, this is the one I found hardest to keep up to. Anyway, to keep going. After the first section, he says, "You are surrounding on my surroundings, sounding down the mountain range of my left side brain." I heard someone say that he says left side brain because the left side ...

Vessel-Twenty One pilots, Part 1, Ode to sleep.

I wake up fine and dandy,... Good morning, 2018! I'm super bored, and I've also wanted to do this for a while, so here we go. 1. Ode to sleep This song is quite the start to the album. It's a mix of every type of music, starting with a rock/fast "rap" section. I never did a words to second count, but I know it was pretty fast, and flows in a weird way. Then, the song starts to slow down, then leads into a happy little pop section, (no Bob Ross puns intended) that's actually quite upbeat, but it also is Tyler saying how he gets scared of his demons that haunt him at night, but also is telling them that his is "Insignificant. What does it do for you to harass me?" Then, it starts slowing down again, and reverts back into the dark rock/rap section, like the first, but probably one of the fastest words per second section in almost any song, to my count, it's 72 words in about 12 seconds, (for those of you that don't have a calculator, or t...

Reason

Why? Why do we struggle some days, when we fall down so much? Why do we get back up, even? There are days when I feel like I can take on the world, and there are days when I feel like I'm being held down. Sure, I do have a passion about what I enjoy. I speed cube, I enjoy playing chess, I play piano. Heck, I enjoy doing schoolwork, but it seems so inconsistent on whether I can focus on it for long enough. After all, all this struggle with my failures in addition to continuing what is expected of me, is too much to handle most days. What can keep me motivated? I wish that improvement in said subject matter from before is enough, it certainly isn't. Even if I were to improve enough to be world class with either a Rubik's cube or a chessboard, I still think that it would be a secondary pursuit for me. Even if I was good enough to learn as many majors in any subjects I enjoy, (or if I wanted to) would it be enough to keep me motivated? No. It still wouldn't matter in the en...
