Marathon training, day 40-100

Day 43, 10-18-18
Thursday after cross country. Took 2 days of rest, then I started running again. Took a 7 mile run yesterday, and I ran 14 miles today! My 7 mile run had my best 10k time yet, (45:57) and my 14 mile run was my first half marathon, and goodness, that was so much faster than I thought it would be. I had aimed at a 8:00-8:25 pace for the half marathon, and each mile was about 7:27. I just started off the run fast, (about 22 minutes for the first 5k) then as I slowed down, each mile went by at about 7:30 for each mile, though I felt like I was running slower, I just kept packing in 7:30 miles. It was a lot of fun, and I didn't end up feeling too sore afterwards, I felt pretty good. Still sore though.

Day 45, 10-20-18
7 miles today, in cold and windy temperatures. 34 degrees, only my second run in temperatures like this, but with a sweatshirt, gloves, and a hat it really kept me warm. The strides after the run felt really sluggish though, because my hamstrings were pretty sore, because of the 14 mile run two days ago. This run was in 52:04 at 7:26 pace. Not as good as my run on Wednesday, but with how I am feeling, I really am happy with it.

Day 46, 10-21-18
Rest day. Carefully planned out my week so I'll have about 40 miles this week, not a small amount for sure. Really happy about my last week's miles, really felt like I hit them hard for this week, maybe a bit too hard. None of my runs were higher than 7:45 pace, my recovery was right at 7:45 on the dot, and all the others were just below 7:30. Had a great week, hopefully I don't lose my mind from so many miles run.

Day 48, 10-23-18
Did a Threshold run with Elijah from cross country yesterday in preparation for a 10 mile race on Saturday, and did a 7 mile recovery run today. Yesterday's run, though SUPER windy, was a fast 7:15 pace, and today's run was at 7:21 pace. Though yesterday's run was really hard, it didn't feel like it was only 6 seconds a mile faster, though it wasn't windy today I guess. Foot was sore today, I am not sure why. Was careful to tread carefully and made sure to stretch after.

Day 55, 10-30-18
Though I had aimed for a sub 75 minutes for my race, I completely sold myself short. The day after the recovery run, I ran a 10k in 6:51 pace, (which in context was faster than two of my 5k's from cross country laid end to end). For the race, I finished just under 71 minutes, with 1:10:40. Easily was my favorite race all season. Planning to run tomorrow, pack in more miles.

Day 59, 11-03-18
Just finished a 14 mile run. finished at 2:00:06, basically as if I had set the treadmill at 7 and ran on it for 2 hours. Afterward, my calves and my back hurts a bit, but after a good night's sleep it should be pretty good. Second half marathon ever, really enjoyed it, though I did it alone.

Day 61, 11-05-18
7 Mile run today, hope to run 49 miles this week. (7 miles a day for the weekdays, and a 14 mile run for Saturday's long run). Really enjoyed this run, though I took it a little hard while being sore. Made my strides 10 seconds longed and did them at the start of the run today instead of after, because I didn't think I would want to do them had I done them after.

Day 78, 11-22-18
7 miles on the treadmill today, I have done 7 miles on the treadmill 4 days in a row now. Today's run was a little slower than usual, taking it easy so I can have a good long run on either Friday or Saturday.

Day 82, 11-26-18
Monday after Thanksgiving. Had put in quite a lot of miles in the last 4 days, ran 5 miles with Ben from the track team, and then on Saturday I took a long run that ended up being 20 miles. I blame Jared for the idea, and blame one of my friends who goes to college in Florida for bringing back nice weather when he came back for thanksgiving. I'm planning to rest up for the next few days, I have a race coming up on Saturday. (8 miles)

Day 89, 12-03-18
Monday after the race. The race went pretty well considering the conditions, the weather wasn't great, the roads were worse, and the wind was worse yet. Finished with a time of 1:00:12.9, pretty good all things considered. though was shooting for a much better time, of maybe 56 minutes. That wasn't happening though, with the weather that there was. I also ran today, I ran 8 miles on the treadmill at 8:34 pace. Actually enjoyed the run quite a bit, just watched a bunch of different youtube videos while I ran and felt pretty good by the end of it.

Day 91, 12-05-18
Another day, another run. After 24 miles on a treadmill in three days, I'm a little sick of treadmill, but also do not want to brave the cold either. Top of my left foot is bothering me again, not sure if it's because of increase in miles or if it's my shoes having taken so many miles (These shoes are at somewhere around 510 miles). Hopefully it will be feeling better by tomorrow.

Day 92, 12-06-18
Learned a lot on today's run. Didn't run much differently, but I was careful not to swing my arms too much but still move them and keep them away from my chest when I ran. I also focused hard on bringing my feet up at the back of my stride, and that also helped my running. Felt better after the run than I have in a long time, I think that my form is steadily improving and slowly it's getting easier to run these longer distances. 32 miles so far this week.

Day 93, 12-07-18
Run today didn't feel good at all. Drank soda before the run like an idiot, and though it didn't give me any sideaches, my lungs ached bad for almost the entire run. Had to stop and spit 5 or 6 times during the run, and I stopped altogether too many times during the run as well. Otherwise, legs felt good during the run, and they still feel good now, so I hope I can get a 16 mile run before work.

Day 94, 12-08-18
Had to run before work at 5 am. Wasn't the most motivated to run, because after all, 5 am is pretty early, but I literally had not time else I could do my run that day as I had to work and I had said I would go to a game night that day as well. At the very least the run felt good, though I cut it short because I didn't want to burn myself out too much.

Day 96, 12-10-18
Got up at 5 am to run again, and did mile 2 single mile repeats on the treadmill. Had lots of fun with it, though the pace that I ran them, (6 minute miles) was pretty fast. I could do it, but barely. I probably will do 4 more miles after work today to get in the miles.

Day 97, 12-11-18
Did a 4 mile easy run with the dog, was not much fun to do because the roads were icy, and my shoes are worn out really bad. I really don't want to run much before I get new shoes because it hurts to run even short distances.

Day 99, 12-12-18
Split the miles between both outside running and treadmill. Run outside was about 9:30 pace and the run inside was 8:34 pace. Outside was slower because of the roads being slippery and the weather being cold. Otherwise I enjoyed both parts of the run, outside was nice because I took the doggo with me and inside was nice because I could run faster without as much effort.

Day 100, 12-13-18
Once again split the miles between two days. The second part of the run was a little slower than the treadmill from the day before, I was less inspired to run today than I was the day before. I really wasn't any more tired than the day before, just didn't want to run quite as much. Otherwise the run was very enjoyable.
